Animated Walking

Jan 02 2010

This is a short animation that I made, the frames are drawn in photoshop and then animated together through ImageReady.

The video runs through the 10 frame/second animation three times and then through the 2 frame/second version once.

Incase you don’t get what’s going on; it shows a person standing from seating, then walking past the camera to go down stairs.

62 Frames in total, took a real long time. Original Youtube page here.

The videos go through the development process that I followed.

Laser Cut Keyrings

Jan 01 2010

Each design was made in Corel Draw and then cut out by a laser cutter. This hopefully shows understanding of graphic design in Corel Draw and C.A.D.

Self Portrait

Jan 01 2010

An old self portrait that was drawn quite a while ago, maybe a year or two now.

W.I.P. Painting

Jan 01 2010

A work in progress painting that I started a while ago, it has since been placed on a shelf and still waits to be finished; I was very happy with the lips in this one.

Sorry about the poor quality photo.

Glass Drawing

Jan 01 2010

A drawing of a glass I did quite a while ago. The drawings to big for my scanner so I had to take photos; I applied a black and white gradient map due to the fact my phone camera likes to take pictures of things with a blue tint.

Spiral Arrow Design

Dec 31 2009

The current page you’re looking at is completely different to what I had initially wanted. Below was the design that I quickly created in Photoshop and was going to use; it was meant to be minimal and non-distracting, which is something I thought I’d achieved.

Of course, this means that I’d have to code it to work with WordPress. Now since I only have the slightest knowledge on anything html or css this is when I started having trouble. Here’s my first attempt at coding the page:

Yeah it seems to follow the design pretty well, until you notice that annoying gap at the top. Seriously? Why are you there? I didn’t put you there, also why does the sidebar not extend all the way to the bottom? Oh how I hate coding.

Completely restarted the theme since I couldn’t work out what I’d done wrong, this time I’d read up on css and such. Got rid of that gap at the top! Shame about the text not fitting in margins or something…

Oh yeah, complete restart again! This time it’s actually starting to look ok, pretty proud of myself at this point.

However, in the end I chose to get rid of my own design in favour of Niyaz’ Theme as I thought it looked far snazzier then what I’d created. Obviously I slightly edited it, got rid of peoples ability to comment and threw on a banner of my choice.

So yes, this post doubles as a story about how I’ve designed Spiral Arrow and as a portfolio piece showing my ability to design a webpage. Design not code that is.
